Ruby was born on January 6, 1939, the only baby born that day in Ouachita Parish. She peacefully entered her heavenly home on June 24, 2026, at the age of 87. She lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others. A devoted charter member of her church, Ruby was actively involved in many areas of ministry, but her greatest joy was teaching the children's choir, where she lovingly shared her faith and inspired young hearts through music. She had a lifelong love for baseball and football and delighted in cheering on her favorite teams with family and friends. Ruby was West Monroe High School graduate, class of 1958.
For 27 years, Ruby faithfully served as a paraprofessional with Monroe City Schools, where she made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students. She loved each child as if they were her own, offering encouragement, patience, and a caring heart that left an imprint on generations of young lives. Ruby will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant's heart, her gentle spirit, and the love she so freely gave to her family, church, students, and all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of compassion, kindness, and Christian love will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Howard Rugg; father, Joe Edward Deville Johnson; mother, Martha Ruby Beard Johnson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Mary Ellen Henson; brother, Richard Edward Johnson (Ann); daughters, Connie Lynn Bennett, Cindy Jo Walker, Sandy Gail Davidson (Ted); grandchildren, Dustin Louis Spillers, Joshua William Walker, Tess Elizabeth Davidson (future son-in law, Ben Monnin), Cameron Olivia Davidson (Hill Clement); great-grandchildren, Oliver Louis Spillers, Celia Ruby Spillers; also survived by numerous step-children and step-grandchildren and extended family and friends.
