Memorial service celebrating the life of Gene Walker of Quitman, LA. will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Beech Springs Baptist Church, Quitman, Louisiana.
Gene was born December 31, 1954 and passed from this life June 18, 2026 at the age of 71.
He spent more than 50 years behind the wheel as a truck driver, working tirelessly to provide for his family. For many years, he hauled firewood and never shied away from hard work. In his younger days, he enjoyed tending a garden and was especially proud of his tomato plants and rose bushes. Gene never met a stranger, and if you knew him, chances are you had a story to tell about him. He had a generous heart and would gladly give anyone the shirt off his back if they were in need.
An avid outdoorsman, Gene loved hunting and fishing. When his children were young, some of their fondest memories were spent along the banks of Dugdemona, camping, fishing, and running trotlines together. It was often said that he had killed more deer in Jackson Parish than just about anyone else in his day. He was known for his colorful personality and sense of humor, and all the kids knew to keep their ears covered around Geneo. One of his favorite sayings was, “Do like I say, not like I do.”
Above all else, Gene loved his family deeply and passionately. No matter the conversation or distance between them, he rarely ended a phone call or visit without saying, “Love ya,” and “Y’all be careful.” Those words, along with the memories he leaves behind, will be cherished forever by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is preceded in death by his father, Willie Lee Walker; mother, Willie Mae Brown; stepfather, Jim Brown; brother, Martin Walker; sister, Nena Kaye Ross; and brother-in-Law, Mike Russell.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Willie Leo Walker and wife, Carrie; daughter, Deborah Ann Wooldridge; grandchildren, Skyla Spikes, Ethan Walker, Rayne Glaze, husband, Dakota, Jessie Walker, Aiden Lowrey, Charley Renn Wooldridge; great grandchildren: Axel Spikes, Jett Spikes, Atlas Glaze, & Walker Lee Glaze; brother, Bobby Walker and wife Diane; sister, Jatis Walker Russell; sister in Law, Vicki Walker; brother in Law: John Ross; also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
